9-7-2019 – 14-9-2019 – Tsjerkepaad
Church Saint Lauren

From July 9th, 2019 on, a collection of noble costumes are being presented in Raard, in the Laurentius Church. This collection comes from the families Brantsma-Van Slooten-Van Sminia and was donated to Heritage Foundation.

The clothes were treasured and properly conserved for the future. It’s the heritage of Maria Cornelia Johanna van Slooten-van Sminia. Her granddaughter Marjolijn, who is named after her, and her husband Thom Dieben donated the costumes that were worn by the families Van Sminia, Van Eijsinga, Æbinga van Humalda, Van Lynden, Van Andringa de Kempenaer, Van Sytzama, etc. Research is still in process.

That valuable textile is registered with Heritage Foundation as Collection Brantsma I. Marjolijn’s cousin Sam Brantsma and his wife Titia van Wulfften Palthe donated a collection from the same family: Collection Brantsma II.

Textile expert Gieneke Arnollie scientifically describes those objects piece by piece. A selection from about a hundred objects was made en is presented at the Laurentius Church. The complete collections will be transferred by Heritage Foundation, and will be on loan for an undetermined amount of time to Fogelsangh State in Feankleaster for expositions.

More information about the collection can be found here.

Do you also have old textile or antique clothing? Are you wondering what to do with it? Don’t throw it away, please contact us at Erfgoed Fundaasje. It doesn’t have to be a collection, any piece can be important and we can assess its value.
